RONDA, SPAIN – travel shorts #Spain #travel

Perched on an inland plateau riven by the 100m fissure of El Tajo gorge, Ronda is Málaga province’s most breathtaking city. It has a beautifully dramatic locale, and owes its title (‘surrounded’ by mountains), to the encircling Serranía de Ronda.
Set up in the ninth century BC, Ronda is also just one of Spain’s oldest cities. Its present previous city, La Ciudad (the City), largely dates again to Islamic instances, when it was an important cultural centre stuffed with mosques and palaces. Its prosperity as a investing depot made it an attractive prospect for bandits and profiteers and the city has a colourful and intimate previous in Spanish folklore.
Ronda was a favorite with the Romantics of the late nineteenth century, and has captivated an array of global artists and writers, these as David Wilkie, Alexandre Dumas, Rainer Maria Rilke, Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles.
