Michigan commit JJ McCarthy makes his IMG Academy debut in the first game of the GEICO High School Football Showcase. The Ascenders had an astounding 11 players ranked in the ESPN 300 – including OT J.C. Latham (Alabama commit), WR Jacorey Brooks (Alabama commit), RB Lovasea’ Carroll (Georgia commit) and RB Kaytron Allen.
Venice was lead by TE Weston Wolff (Maryland commit) and Steffon Johnson.

Honestly a little underwhelmed with McCarthy’s arm strength, but at the same time I feel more optimistic about him than I have for any other Harbaugh quarterback recruit. He actually plays within the system unlike Patterson, yet still has the ability to make off script plays. His footwork and overall accuracy is pretty good too. I’d say it’s mostly just a maturation thing for him at this point. He’s not all that big but I think by his second year at Michigan he’ll be a good starter.
