Burj Al Arab is a luxurious hotel situated in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At 321 m (one,053 ft), it is the fourth tallest hotel in the planet. Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) from Jumeirah beach front and is linked to the mainland by a private curving bridge. The form of the structure is made to mimic the sail of a ship.

Burj Al Arab was made by architect Tom Wright of Atkins. The design and development had been managed by Canadian engineer Rick Gregory also of WS Atkins. Design of the Island started in 1994.

It was created to resemble the sail of a dhow, a variety of Arabian vessel. Two “wings” unfold in a V to type a huge “mast”, though the room in between them is enclosed in a huge atrium.

The architect Tom Wright stated “The customer desired a developing that would come to be an legendary or symbolic assertion for Dubai this is very similar to Sydney with its Opera Dwelling, London with Huge Ben, or Paris with the Eiffel Tower. It wanted to be a developing that would come to be synonymous with the name of the place.”

The architect and engineering consultant for the task was Atkins. Fletcher Design from New Zealand was the guide joint venture companion in the initial stages of pre-development and development. The hotel was created by South African development contractor Murray & Roberts and Al Habtoor Engineering.

The developing opened in December 1999.
