Founded in the 1st century BC as a Roman settlement, Bonn is one of Germany’s oldest cities. From 1597 to 1794, Bonn was the capital of the Electorate of Cologne, and residence of the Archbishops and Prince-electors of Cologne. From 1949 to 1990, Bonn was the capital of West Germany, and Germany’s present constitution, the Basic Law, was declared in the city in 1949. The era when Bonn served as the capital of West Germany is referred to by historians as the Bonn Republic. From 1990 to 1999, Bonn served as the seat of government – but no longer capital – of reunited Germany. After reunification in 1990, the Bundestag passed the Bonn/Berlin resolution in 1991, as a result of which the seat of parliament and government was moved to the federal capital Berlin in 1999/2000 and, in turn, numerous federal authorities were relocated to Bonn. With the addition of the name Bundesstadt, the federal government is strengthening Bonn as a second seat of government.

  1. A copious rain over Beethoven's birthplace. Although I do not know the city from the sectors you have shown, few buildings of architectural value are appreciated (the musician's house is a notable exception), we already know why. Like Cologne, the city was apparently rebuilt quickly. The very beautiful market square, unfortunately all empty due to the pandemic, take care of yourself and Greetings from the south of the world at 33 degrees and bright sun in the center of Chile.

  2. So glad to see Bonn from your perspective especially in winter. It is really a great place worth visiting. So many interesting establishments you can see here. Such a beautiful city. Thank you for the wonderful video of Bonn, one of the prides of my beloved Germany 🙂
