stops were somewhat lengthy given it’s only a 1 hour and 15 minute trip.

We loved this! It was a quintessential activity to do with children when in Colorado! Initially, we were afraid that we would miss out on the opportunity to go as it was snowing, however upon arrival staff were so friendly and helpful. They were able to grant us permission to sit inside. The weather cleared up just before our train ride and we ended up outside anyway!

We were in town for only a day or two and I had to reserve our tickets ahead of time. When I found out that it was supposed to snow that week, I tried to call in advance to see if anything could be done to change our tickets to be out of the inclement weather. The staff was not very encouraging nor helpful in allowing me to make any changes ahead of time. They wouldn’t even allow me to use the credit to a full price ticket inside. I thought that it would be a complete wash. However, on a whim, we went to the ticketing booth the same day and had the best customer service. I’m confused on why it wasn’t more consistent from the time that I initially called.

Fun experience – Good information! Trains are fun! A little bummed that the steam engine had been taken out of service the day before for scheduled maintenance – so no chugging smoke, soot, or steam whistle… but the old diesels were a good ride too! The museum at the Silver Plume station has lots of interesting artifacts and history inside.

The only kink… voucher requires calling ahead for a reservation… but went to voicemail each time I tried – with no returned call. Voicemail even while standing at the registration counter at Georgetown / Devil’s Gate. Counter folks were helpful – altho’ initiailly a little resistant… “you needed to make a reservation” – THEY then called ?? reservations – connected with a rep – so was able to redeem the voucher and to make the ride.

Train ride withan Old-time feel. Also pleasant pretty little town to be based in.

Other Comments

Being rained on by greasy black engine debris detracted from leg 1 of ride, it was not enjoyable getting all that in our hair and clothes. Should put covered cars at both ends and all the open cars in the middle, I assume that would help since we got none of that at the back on the return.

Nice short train ride with lovely scenery.

Be aware that you must reserve your tickets after you buy the vouchers – I was aware of this but had some issues getting through to the actual railroad; had to leave a message; played phone tag.
